Description
Artist Statement:
My work as a commissioned fine artist is ever-changing and I enjoy the challenge of each new piece that I am tasked with creating. One of my biggest obstacles is producing work that is original to my views. Besides my love for art, I have longed to engulf myself in ocean life. One of my biggest aspirations as a child was to be a marine biologist, that is where my “Ocean’s Heart” concept was born.
“Ocean’s Heart” expresses my disappointment in what is happening to our marine ecosystem. Our oceans are suffering; from the dying coral reefs, overfishing and plastic pollution. One of the biggest issues is the overuse of plastics and how they have taken a toll on our sea life. Every year, 8 million metric tons of plastic end up in our oceans. That is equivalent to five grocery bags filled with plastic for every foot of coastline in the world. In 2025, it is estimated that it will be 10 bags full per foot, twice as great then what we are experiencing now.
Artwork:
Ocean's Heart is a non-commission painting that I have been working on for a number of years. It captures my view on plastic pollution and damage caused not only on our shores in the U.S. but in the ocean's throughout the world.
